Grafton Academy graduate Naomi Ajetunmobi – winner of the Dublin Fashion Festival 2017 Young Designer of the Year award! Naomi’s intricate embellishments and fabric choices for her final design swung in her favour with the panel of judges on the night.
On Friday 22nd September Dublin’s fashion set gathered in The Round Room at The Mansion House. The event happened to fall on the same night as Culture Night 2017 which we were taking part in and when the announcement of her big win was announced live on the Xposé Facebook page, her final collection was being shown at the finale fashion show at the Grafton Academy of Fashion Design where our doors were open to the public. The timing couldn’t have been better!
Chosen from over 60 entrants Naomi’s design was judged by renowned fashion photographer, Barry McCall; TV3 Xpose series producer, Debbie O’Donnell; Irish Independent’s fashion editor, Bairbre Power; owner of The Design Centre, Ashling Kilduff; Brown Thomas personal shopping manager, Katie McGrath; Arnotts head of personal shopping at Arnotts, Clara Halpin and Evoke.ie editor, Sybil Mulcahy.
12 finalists were chosen before each finalist showcased their design in the catwalk show. And much to our delight, MC Glenda Gilson announced Naomi as this year’s winner of the Young Designer of the Year award. Along with the coveted title prize, Naomi will also get the opportunity to shoot her final collection with fashion photographer, Barry McCall.
The competition was fierce with fantastic talent from all 12 finalists. Check out Naomi’s competition in this lookbook minifilm from Dublin Fashion Festival. We wish Naomi the best of luck and every success in the future of her fashion and design career.
